Favourite Product Summer 2016

I hope you’re all having a fantastic summer!

So I recently fell in love with a new product!!

We’re well past the honeymoon stage, we’ve been together for about a month or so now! This product is just so damn gorgeous!!!!

I had been looking for a bronzer for quite some time. I am super fair, which makes finding a bronzer for my skin tone quite difficult. I didn’t want something too orange, red or yellow. I didn’t want a bronzer that would make me looks ashy either. I think I swatched every bronzer in Sephora that night.

But I did eventually find the one that I love! This was my first time purchasing a product from the brand and I’m so impressed!

So do you wanna know what it is???

It’s Marc Jacobs O!MEGA Bronze in Tantric

This product blends like a dream and a little goes a LONG way. This product is an investment, Sephora is selling it for $59.00 CAD. But it will last you forever!

I’m looking forward to trying a few more of Marc Jocobs products, I’ve heard fantastic reviews of the Remedy Concealer Pen and the Kiss Pop Lipsticks. Cannot wait to try those out and let you know my thoughts!

So if you’re looking for a new bronzer and have a few extra $$ to spend, I highly recommend this product!!

Ok, we need to talk about Skin Care!

Hello!

I hope everyone is able to stay cool during this heat wave we’re having. Oh my, it’s so warm out there!!

There’s been something on my mind for a while now, and I just need to get it out there.

We all LOVE makeup, companies are constantly releasing new products. There are so many new products out there!!!

We spend all of this money on makeup, so we can be creative but sometimes we forget to invest in the products that will help our look last all day.

So let’s talk about Skin Care.

****Disclaimer****

I am not a dermatologist, the opinions I share here are my own. Follow at your own risk.

Ok, so with that out of the way, let’s discuss skin care!

I have met so many clients over the past few years that do not have a daily skin care routine. Having a skin care routine is SUPER important if you want your makeup to last all day long.

Having your makeup artist apply moisturizer to skin that doesn’t normally have it applied isn’t going to help your makeup last. It’s something that needs to be started right away.

I’m going to walk you through my skin care routine;

Step One – Cleanse

Each morning I wake up and cleanse my skin. I have super sensitive skin, I have Rosacea which causes my skin to be super pink. So after a few years of trial and error, I’ve found a line of products that works for me. Cleansing your skin helps to wash away any impurities, leaving your skin clean and fresh.

Step Two – Tone

After I’ve cleansed my skin washing away any impurities, I then tone my skin. We do this to level out the PH of our skin. Cleansing causes our PH levels to change, toning returns the PH level to as normal level allowing our skin to accept the next step.

Step 3 – Moisturize

After cleansing and toning our skin we are now ready to moisturize. Find a product that works well for you. Depending on the season, my moisturizers change. In the winter my skin requires a much thicker moisturizer.

Once or twice a week I add an extra step to my routine.

Exfoliation

This help to get rid of any dead skin. It’s important not to do this too often, it can  irritate your skin.

I shouldn’t have to mention this, but I will. Remember to wash away your makeup daily. Each night before you go to bed, take a few moments to wash away your makeup and pollution that has accumulated throughout the day. I remember being in school and our teacher telling us we age 7 days for every one day that we do not wash away our makeup. Remember that!

So there you go! It’s that simple. Adding these simple steps to your daily routine will immensely help your makeup last all day. I’m not going to lie, if you do not currently have a skin care routine, your skin may react to this new process. But if you persevere your skin will thank you in the long run!

Bridal Trial Tips

It’s that time of year again, the 2016 Wedding Season has begun!

I offer my clients a bridal package that includes a trial application. I’ve had a few clients want to pass on this step, which is a big No-No!

Bridal trials are so important, this is normally the first time you and your makeup artist will be meeting. It’s a great way to break the ice, during this time I have an opportunity to get to know my client. We discuss details of the wedding from location, number of guests, style, etc. It’s so important for the artist and client to get to know each other.

The trial usually runs about an hour and a half, it gives us time to try out different looks. The goal is to have a stress free wedding day, a trial is an important step to ensure that happens.

Since you’ve decided to go ahead with a trial here are some tips to make sure it’s successful.

#1 Clean Skin

Clean skin is essential to having a successful trial. Please wash away any makeup that you migh be wearing. If you take your makeup off with makeup removing wipes, make sure to rinse your face with water afterwards. The wipes will leave a residue on your skin and the makeup your artist applies will not sit correctly.

#2 Skin Care Routine

We will be discussing your skin care routine. Let’s face it we all have our individual issues with our skin. We will assess your skin and depending on your current routine, I may suggest some changes to help you have healthier skin for you big day.

#3 Be Prepared

I ask my clients to do their research, have an idea of how you want your makeup to look. You can search online or on Pinterest (But please keep in mind that 99% of the time those photos have layers and layers of filters on them) these photos will help me to better understand the look you’re going for.

#4 Your Hair

If you’ve decided how you’re going to be wearing your hair on your wedding day it’s recommended that you wear your hair in a similar fashion for your trial.

#5 Jewelry

Have any jewelry on hand for your trial, this will help you to see the overall look.

#6 Wear White

I ask my clients to wear a top with a similar cut and colour of their wedding dress. Wearing white or Ivory ( or whatever colour your dress is) helps you to see what your makeup will look like in your wedding day.

#7 Take pictures

Bridal makeup is applied differently than your every day makeup application. You want to ensure that your makeup is going to look fantastic a in a variety of settings both indoor and outdoor. Once your trial is complete take a couple of photos of yourself to make sure you’re absolutely happy with the final product.

Thank you for taking a few moments to read my suggestions!

Thinking about hiring a makeup artist….

Good Morning!

It’s Saturday!!!!

I’m getting ready for my first wedding of 2016, so excited! I’ll be off to Kitchener shortly 😊

But before I head out the door, I wanted to write a quick post.

This time of year is quite busy for those of us in the Bridal Industry. This is the time of year when most brides are researching vendors, requesting quotes and making a decision on who they’d like to work with on their wedding day.

If you’re wondering why some makeup artists are more costly than others, there’s a reason.

There’s a lot of behind the scenes cost associated with running a business like this.

Certification

I’d like to believe that I have a natural talent with makeup. I’ve been helping friends and family with their makeup for years. But I didn’t feel right charging them for something I hadn’t been trained in. So I went to school, to learn the tricks of the trade. To learn how to work with different types of makeup, lighting, skin types etc.

Makeup

I’ve recently stepped out of my comfort zone. My kit had mainly consisted of MAC  products. Don’t get me wrong, I still love MAC but I wanted to try some new products. I researched for months and months, looking up new products. Reading reviews, talking with fellow artists to see how they liked a product. I now have Temptu (airbrush makeup) and RCMA makeup in my kit. These two product lines combined cost me over $1000.00

Insurance

AM Makeup Artistry is insured. My insurance company requires I follow certain steps to ensure my clients safety and my safety. That involves keeping my kit sanitary, cleaning my brushes, having the necessary supplies on hand when working a wedding to keep the makeup and tools clean.

Marketing

Starting a business isn’t easy, there’s a lot of time and money put into marketing. Investing money into the business so that you can find a quality artist. Business cards, flyers, websites, bridal shows.

These are just a few of the things that will make some makeup artists a bit more costly than others.

Research the vendors you’re investing in, read the reviews! You don’t want to be disappointed on one of the biggest days of your life.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

My favourite purchase of 2015!

I’ve purchased an obscene amount of makeup this year! Its part of my job to test new products to see if they are good enough to make it to my kit. (That’s what I keep telling my husband! lol)

I’ve bought lipsticks, foundations, concealers, highlighters, lashes, lip gloss, pencils…. You name it, I can almost guarantee I tried it out this year.

I wasn’t amazed with the products that were launched in 2015. Some were good, most were just ok. That was until just a couple weeks ago.

At the end of November, Urban Decay launched the Gwen Stefani palette. A beautiful palette with fifteen gorgeous eyeshadows.

I have been using this palette daily for the last three weeks and I am in love with it! You can create so many looks with this palette from the more subtle to the more edgy.

This palette differs from Urban Decays previous palettes, the quality is much better than the Naked 1, 2 and 3. There is less fall out with the shimmer shades and I find the transition shades to be easier to blend out.

As if this palette wasn’t enough, Gwen and Urban Decay have also teamed up and created a line of lipsticks!! I received a sample with the purchase of the eyeshadow palette. These lipsticks are amazing, gorgeous colours! I was getting compliments like crazy! Now I just have to sit tight till April 2016 when they are to be released.

While your out during the holiday season, stop by Sephora and pick up this gem! You won’t regret this purchase!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

2015 Wrap Up

My 2015 bridal season has come to an end, now that I have my weekends free I find that a have a lot of time to reflect on the past year. I’m already missing it!!

I worked with so many brides and bridal parties this year, it’s an honour to be able to take part in their special day. I loved watching how the ladies interacted with each other, listening as they shared their stories. Yes, I was indeed listening!!

I wanted to take a moment to thank the brides of 2015. You pushed me to create the most beautiful looks. As I look back on the photographs from this past year, I’m in awe of how much I have grown as an artist.

I plan to take the next few months to learn a few new techniques. I will be offering my 2016 clients the option to have airbrushed makeup!

I’m looking forward to challenging myself to learn new techniques and try out some new products so that I can offer my clients only the best!

Once again, thank you for making this such a successful year for AM Makeup Artistry.

See you next year!

Alysia

My 1st Bridal Show!

2014 was an amazing year for AM Makeup Artistry.

I’m so lucky to have been able to work with each and every one of my clients! They have challenged me, inspired me and befriended me. I’m so excited for what 2015 has in store of AM Makeup Artistry!

Last weekend I was a vendor at the Say I Do Bridal Show, my first time being a vendor. It was a last minute decision, having been asked to be a vendor the Saturday before.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted my booth to look, searching online for ideas. I had a million ideas floating around in my head. I’m thankful my husband brought me back down to earth and reminded me I only had a week to complete this.

We made my backdrop, purchased supplies from Home Depot. It’s a good thing my husband is handy!

Then I needed to track down some photos of my past clients. I was surprised with how helpful everyone was!

I wanted to thank my husband for being so patient and helpful with this project. I couldn’t have done this without you!

I also wanted to thank my Mom and her boyfriend for helping me out too! Zak helped construct the picture boards and my Mom helped with the layout.

The Say I Do Bridal Show, took place on January 25th at Craig Owan. It was a lot of fun getting to meet the future brides and hearing about their wedding plans.

I also ran a contest at the bridal show!

IMG_5884Congrats Lauren C on winning this great prize!

I’m looking forward to working with the brides that I met at this show! Thank you for visiting my booth and taking a few minutes to share the details of your wedding!

2014 In Review (not bad for my first year!)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,100 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.
